Transmission by Hairi Kunzru,"It was talking about widespread chaos in the city of London, about brownouts and disruption." (132)
Explanation
A brownout occurs when the power supplier reduces electrical voltage. Causes for brownouts include a mechanical failure, the result of a shortage, or overuse by consumers. This is done to force our appliances and lights to use less electrical power (watts). The lights will dim slightly. Generally, voltage reductions are advertised on radio and television. Brownouts can also cause serious damage in computers or force components to work incorrectly.
