Transmission, p. 254: “Money tends to virtuality. It hovers about in the form of promises and conditionalities…”

Definition:

The term “virtual” stems from the latin virtus, which means strength. Virtuality means something far different. Rather, it refers to something abstract, incarnate, indicating that something seems real even though it isn't. There are many kinds of virtual creations; most come from the media. Any fictional character is virtual, and any emotion the reader may have for that character isn’t real. But that character’s virtuality exists; that emotion the reader feels is the proof. This phenomena has become much more prevalent in the era of film and television, making scenarios seem “more real.” However computers and new technology such as VR goggles and surround sound speakers are taking virtuality even further.
